A literacy coach based in Switzerland, Tracy has been teaching multilingual students to read and write in English for more than seven years. When her students asked for opportunities to submit their writing for publication in magazines, both physical and online, she found very few options for writers under 13 around Europe. What better way to create new opportunities to grow amazing writers than to give them a new space to do so?
Tracy has been an educator for fifteen years. She started out as a teacher aid and then primary school teacher in Christchurch, New Zealand, and in 2013 moved to Zurich, Switzerland. After cofounding a programming and robotics academy for kids, she very quickly returned to teaching the area she loves the most: literacy.
The first story she remembers writing was a novel at age 9. After spending two months filling every spare moment in the classroom on her adventure tale, the teacher told her to wrap it up. In a panic, she finished it that day with “…and it was all a dream.” Ever since then she’s reluctant to rush a writer’s process, but she has learned the value of planning. Mostly. She writes short stories and flash fiction on the side and is, once again, working on an infinite novel.
