Your eyes are like a crescent moon

Your laugh is like a melody, sweet and warm

Your smile is like the sunrise, saving me from the dark

Like the sun you emit rays of light

The hallways come to life as you walk in them

Your presence is like a blanket, keeping me warm and making me feel safe

You lighten everyone’s mood with your smile

You make everything feel right

Alayna Han is a 12 year old, middle school student with an interest in history, civics and law. She has served as co-captain of her Quiz Bowl team and a member of her school’s Honor Society. Writing poetry started as a school assignment for her, but she gained a passion for it after realizing that it is open to interpretation and emotional subjectivity: like history, poetry and literature are ways to make sense out of complicated narratives. Beyond learning and writing, Alayna enjoys listening to music, doodling, and joking with her friends. She currently resides in Seoul, South Korea.
