Saimiri sciureus is another name for a Guianan squirrel monkey. I find that Guianan squirrel monkeys are extremely cute, but they also have a lot of facts that are cool to know about.
Guianan squirrel monkeys live in the north-east of America, in Guiana, Venezuela, and Brazil.
They are small animals, have a long tail, a pink face, a black muzzle, and white arches over their eyes. Their bellies are white and their arms are yellow-orange. The crown of their head is olive or olive-gray. The fur on their back is either gray, olive, or orange. Guianan squirrel monkey males’ bodies are 25-37cm long and their tail is 36-40cm long. They weigh between 550 and 1400g. A female’s body is 25-34cm long. They weigh between 500 and 1200g.
Guianan squirrel monkeys are one of the most intelligent species of primates. Primates are a group of intelligent mammals that include monkeys, apes, lemurs, tarsiers, and humans.
They use their tail to balance, not to grab on things like others. Their favourite food is fruit, insects, and other small arthropods.
Now you know some cool and basic facts about this cute monkey from South America. Maybe you’ll get to see one some day!
